Obituary for Caryl Lorraine Swanson

EDGERTON--- Caryl Lorraine Swanson, age 92, of Edgerton, died on Saturday July, 13, 2019 at Huntington Place in Janesville with her loved ones at her bedside. She was born on March 23, 1927 the daughter of Clarence and Isabelle (Livings) Swanson in Blue Island IL. Caryl was a born achiever and she had a passion for life. Nothing was impossible for Caryl, only men who thought so. A motto she lived her life by! She was a natural as her uncle would challenge her to solve number problems at the early age of five. At nine years old she knew she wanted to be an accountant. Athletics were important to this sports enthusiast. She loved tennis. At age 12 Caryl was playing tennis with her older brother, Gail. By the time she was 17 she was IL junior state champion. Music was a gift given to Caryl, she loved all types of music. She listened and she sang and she danced to it all of her life. One of her awesome talents was she remembered every word to any song she would ever sing. The alto saxophone was one of Caryl’s musical instruments of choice along with the clarinet. Saturday morning piano lessons at her aunt’s house would be followed by cooking lessons with her cousins. Caryl put the “gourmet” in cooking. She loved to enhance the flavor of her food. Some of her best friends were Italian and that had an influence in her culinary skills. Golf was also a passion sport. Caryl was involved in several tournaments. As she entered her adult life her career took off. She had the opportunity to go to college at Purdue University in Chicago, Illinois to solidify her accounting talent. She became co owner of a successful accounting business with Bette Edwards for 42 years in the Chicago area until her retirement in 1993. Beagle dogs were another love of Caryl’s. She enjoyed the company of five wonderful four legged kids: Toby, Tammy, Daisy, Nicki, and Brandy. She was able to show some of her dogs in various dog shows around the country. Caryl was interested in real estate, are you surprised? This was another passion of Caryl’s. She loved her homes. She started out being the proud owner of her parent’s home, only to be the proud owner of four other homes. Her last home was at Rock River Leisure Estates, Edgerton, WI, where she was very involved from the beginning of the private gated community. You talk about living life! Caryl did not miss a beat. Her bubbly personality and generous heart resonated with so many family and friends over the years. She had timeless and ageless spirit. I believe all that met Caryl during her lifetime would agree she was a very accomplished individual. She is now at home with our Lord and all of her loved ones.

Caryl is survived by her niece, Roberta (Pat) Nagy of Elkhart, IN, as well as two nephews and one other niece. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Robert and Gail; an infant sister, Barbra Jean; and her lifelong friend and business partner, Bette Edwards and several dear friends.

Graveside services will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019, at the ROCK RIVER CEMETERY, Trescher Road, Newville with Rev. Jim Johnson presiding. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made in Caryl’s name to Rock River Leisure Estates. The family is being assisted by the APFEL EHLERT FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, Edgerton.
